Flow direction

Every band is laid out by the original D3 Sankey implementation: primary energy supply on the left, transformation next, secondary energy after that, and final use or losses on the right.

Interpretation

Band width represents energy quantity, not cost, emissions, employment or social value. The displayed source extract is not a fully balanced replacement for the complete official energy-balance tables.
